Insurance claims related to jewellery tend to increase significantly around Halloween, driven mainly by accidental loss, according to data from Aviva. The insurer’s analysis of claim patterns from 2022 to 2025 reveals that the number of jewellery insurance claims during Halloween week rises by approximately 25 percent compared to the preceding and following four-week periods.

Aviva identified accidental loss as the primary cause of these claims, suggesting that the heightened activity and festivities during Halloween contribute to a greater risk of jewellery going missing. In addition, the insurer noted other common incidents during this period, including burglaries occurring while families are out trick-or-treating, as well as damage to jewellery sustained at Halloween parties.

The average value of jewellery claims filed during this time stands at £1,113. The increase in such claims highlights the potential vulnerabilities in safeguarding personal valuables amid seasonal celebrations, prompting insurers and policyholders to remain vigilant during holiday periods.
