The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs in Qatar has completed the first phase of a sign language training program aimed at enhancing communication between its customer service and frontline staff and individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have speech difficulties. The initiative is part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to improve service quality and promote inclusivity.

The training, which began on October 4 and ran through October 8, is the first of two phases targeting 26 administrative employees from various departments within the ministry. The second phase is scheduled to take place from October 18 to 22. Between these two instructional periods, participants will engage in a practical field application segment to implement the skills they have acquired in real workplace settings.

The program is designed to align with broader strategic objectives, including the development of human capital and the integration of social inclusion principles within the ministry’s operations. It also supports Qatar National Vision 2030, which emphasizes building a cohesive society that empowers persons with disabilities and improves their access to governmental services.

Mohammed Hassan Al Malki, Director of the Human Resources Department at the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, emphasized the importance of investing in employee skill development as a means to achieve institutional excellence. He highlighted that the training program stresses practical application and direct communication, while also providing digital reference materials to ensure that staff can continue to build on their knowledge after the sessions conclude.

Supervised by Mohammed Ali Al Banali, an expert accredited by the Arab Union for Organizations Working in the Care of the Deaf, the program includes participants from key ministry sectors such as Financial and Administrative Affairs, Islamic Affairs, Human Resources, Zakat Affairs, Mosques, and the General Directorate of Endowments (Awqaf). This collaborative approach reflects the ministry’s commitment to fostering inclusive and effective communication across all its services.
