Qatar’s Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs is participating in a national campaign aimed at raising family awareness about the safe use of digital technology. The effort is conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Development and Family (MSDF) and involves a series of Friday sermons delivered at mosques nationwide through December 26.

The campaign emphasizes parental responsibility in protecting children from online risks and fostering family and social stability amid rapid technological change. Under the guiding motto that safeguarding families is a core and shared responsibility, the initiative seeks to educate families on the challenges posed by digital platforms and highlight methods for maintaining a safe digital environment at home.

Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz al-Thani, Director of the Department of Mosques at Awqaf, noted that mosques serve as important venues for raising awareness about societal issues, including digital safety. He stressed the significance of continuous educational efforts to support parents in monitoring and guiding their children’s technology use, encouraging open dialogue to promote responsible behavior online.

The sermons are designed to underscore that protecting and guiding children is both a religious and familial duty requiring active engagement from both parents. They also address practical aspects such as recognizing the signs of cyberbullying, digital exploitation, and exposure to inappropriate content, while informing families on how to seek assistance from relevant authorities when needed.

This initiative reflects a broader government commitment to coordinating efforts across institutions to address critical social concerns. It aligns with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030, which aims to cultivate a cohesive society capable of adapting to evolving cultural and technological environments with heightened awareness and security.

By integrating messages on digital safety into religious programming, the campaign leverages established community frameworks to promote child protection and family cohesion in the face of advancing technology.
