Qatar’s Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs reported disbursing more than QR91 million in Zakat assistance during the third quarter of 2026, supporting 2,934 families across the country. The funds were distributed through the ministry’s Zakat Affairs Department, which oversees the allocation of charitable contributions in compliance with Islamic law.
Mohammed Abdul Latif al-Mahmoud, Director of the Zakat Affairs Department, stated that the department prioritizes transparency, accuracy, and strict eligibility verification to ensure that the funds reach qualified recipients. Verification processes involve both desk evaluations and field visits, while administrative and operational costs are fully covered by the state, allowing 100 percent of Zakat collections to be transferred to beneficiaries.
The department’s activities are aligned with the broader strategic frameworks of the Ministry of Awqaf’s 2025-2030 strategy and Qatar National Vision 2030, particularly focusing on fostering social cohesion and sustainability.
During the third quarter, recurring monthly assistance provided to families in need reached approximately QR35.8 million, aimed at sustaining their living standards. One-time payments totaling QR33 million were disbursed to address unexpected financial challenges faced by beneficiaries.
Medical aid accounted for QR17.9 million, allocated to healthcare services for eligible individuals, while QR3.1 million supported people burdened by debt. Additionally, the ministry allocated QR1.63 million specifically to support medical treatment for patients from Gaza living in Qatar.
Dr. Salem Jarallah al-Marri, Assistant Director for Administrative Affairs, highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance digital services, noting the department’s commitment to expanding smart applications, automated payment kiosks, and online platforms for faster and easier Zakat payments. This digital transformation streamlines the entire process, from application submission and assessment to direct bank transfers, and includes features such as Zakat calculators and online Sharia consultations.
The ministry encouraged individuals and businesses to fulfill their Zakat obligations through authorized channels, emphasizing these mechanisms help ensure funds are distributed efficiently and transparently, maximizing their impact on those in need.
