The Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs in Qatar has released a new scholarly work focusing on the life and leadership of Abu Bakr Al Siddiq, the first caliph in Islamic history. The book, titled “The Stance on the Characteristics and Caliphate of Abu Bakr Al Siddiq (may God be pleased with him),” was authored by Dr. Hamed Muhammad Al Khalifa and published with support from the Scientific and Cultural Development Endowment Fund, part of the General Directorate of Endowments.
This comprehensive study offers a detailed examination of Abu Bakr’s biography, highlighting his foundational role in maintaining the stability and continuity of the early Islamic state following the death of the Prophet Muhammad. Drawing from Islamic texts and historical evidence, the book explores Abu Bakr’s lineage, virtues, distinctive traits among the Prophet’s companions, and his leadership qualities that shaped the nascent Muslim community.
Beyond a historical account, the work provides a multi-faceted scholarly analysis that addresses theological, political, and social dimensions of Abu Bakr’s caliphate. It discusses complex issues related to leadership and allegiance in Islam, while also engaging with various doubts and critiques surrounding Abu Bakr’s rule, countering them with documented narrations and credible sources.
The publication is part of the Ministry’s broader effort to nurture Islamic scholarship and cultural heritage. The Scientific and Cultural Development Endowment Fund, which underwrote the printing, implements the wishes of donors who prioritize educational works, the dissemination of religious knowledge, and heritage preservation. The ministry’s Department of Islamic Affairs oversees the selection and production of such titles, ensuring they meet high academic and production standards for the benefit of students, researchers, and the general public. Each year, dozens of scholarly volumes are printed under this initiative.
An electronic version of the book is accessible on the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs’ official website, while printed copies are available to holders of advanced Sharia degrees, cultural institutions, and libraries. These copies can be collected from the Heritage Hall, Book Distribution Section located in the Ministry’s main building in Doha.
The Scientific and Cultural Development Endowment Fund is one of six dedicated endowment channels operated by the Endower Service Centre, which mobilizes philanthropic donations to support diverse scientific, cultural, and religious activities throughout Qatar.
