A baby who was taken to hospital on two occasions earlier this year was later found deceased under suspicious circumstances, leading to the arrest of his parents. The infant, named Trevor, experienced repeated episodes of abuse before his death in September 2024, according to court documents and medical reports.
Trevor was first admitted to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH) at around 41 days old, when his mother, Gan, allegedly shook him to the point of unconsciousness. Following this incident in January 2024, Trevor was observed in hospital from January 18 to 23, but no physical injuries were detected.
Several months later, in April, Trevor sustained bleeding under his tongue. On the way to the nanny’s home, his father, Neo, reportedly inserted his hand into the baby’s mouth, causing the injury. When questioned by the nanny, Neo denied knowledge of what had caused the bleeding. At her insistence, Gan and Neo brought Trevor back to KKH on April 2, where a medical examination confirmed redness beneath his tongue.
The abuse continued despite warnings from Gan’s mother, who noticed bruises on Trevor in May 2024 and urged Gan to stop harming the child. However, the violence persisted. In March 2024, Neo allegedly slapped Trevor, resulting in facial bruising. He instructed Gan to claim the injuries were caused by a phone accidentally dropped on the baby if questioned.
Texts exchanged between Neo and Gan in August suggest they were attempting to hide signs of abuse before a doctor’s appointment, with Neo instructing Gan not to hit Trevor until after the scheduled visit to avoid visible bruises. Neo was also reported to have physically abused Gan during the early months of 2024.
The final and fatal episode occurred on the evening of September 1, 2024. Gan reportedly covered Trevor’s face with a furry blanket and pressed it down repeatedly to stop him from crying. When the crying resumed, she placed both hands over his nose and mouth and pressed down hard before striking the side of his face with a fist. She then flipped Trevor onto his stomach and left him unattended.
Neo discovered Trevor was unresponsive around 11:30 p.m. and called Gan to check on the child. Attempts to resuscitate Trevor failed. Rather than calling an ambulance, Neo arranged for a taxi to take the baby to KKH, where Trevor was pronounced dead at approximately 12:20 a.m. on September 2.
Hospital staff reported the case to police, and Gan and Neo were subsequently arrested. An autopsy was conducted but did not determine a definitive cause of death.
The investigation into the case remains ongoing.
