Warwickshire’s decision to raise ticket prices to £165 for the Hollies Stand at next year’s Ashes Test at Edgbaston has provoked a strong reaction from cricket fans on social media. The increase represents a 43 percent hike from the £115 charged in 2023, making it the most significant rise among the five Test venues hosting the series.
The ticket ballot, which opened recently, revealed that general admission prices for the first three days of the Edgbaston Test have risen to £115 at the lowest level, while Warwickshire members benefit from discounted tickets priced at £92. The Hollies Stand, known for its vibrant party atmosphere and colorful fancy dress, traditionally attracts a lively crowd, but the new pricing has led to criticism from supporters who argue the cost is becoming prohibitive.
Warwickshire defended the price adjustments, stating that entry-level tickets “roughly match inflation” compared to the last Ashes series held at Edgbaston in 2023. The county also cited broader economic pressures, acknowledging they are “battling increased costs and trying to manage these wherever we can.”
While venue operators set ticket prices independently, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has faced criticism regarding the scheduling of the 2024 Ashes series. Notably, no Test matches will be played in northern England beyond Trent Bridge in Nottinghamshire. The series begins at Trent Bridge on June 30 before moving to Lord’s, Edgbaston, Southampton, which will host its first-ever Ashes Test against Australia, and concludes at the Oval.
Other counties have also adjusted prices in line with inflation. Surrey’s Oval pricing sees the highest ticket cost rise to £185, up from £165 in 2023. Meanwhile, Trent Bridge offers the most affordable general admission with tickets starting at £100 for the first three days and dropping to £85 for day four.
