The Mahendro family has expanded their Indian gastropub brand, Badmaash, with the opening of a third location in Venice Beach. Known for its innovative fusion of traditional Indian flavors with contemporary American dishes, Badmaash originally built its reputation in downtown Los Angeles more than a decade ago under the leadership of Pawan Mahendro and his sons, Nakul and Arjun.
The new Venice Beach venue represents the family’s most ambitious project to date. Situated along Abbott Kinney Boulevard, the gastropub features an outdoor patio as well as a full bar, enhancing the dining experience with views of the bustling area. The menu has been broadened to reflect a more seasonal and refined approach to Indian cuisine while maintaining the distinctive, flavorful character that has defined the brand.
Dishes at the Venice Beach location combine traditional Indian spices with familiar Western culinary techniques. Among the offerings are steak frites served with an au poivre sauce infused with masala, and slow-roasted lamb neck korma accompanied by a rich brown butter curry made from cashews and hazelnuts. Vegetable-focused plates also feature prominently, such as a “fruit chaat” incorporating tamarind, red chaat masala, mint, and toasted almonds, using locally sourced market produce.
Complementing the food, the bar menu introduces craft cocktails like vodka martinis enhanced with olive oil, aligning with the gastropub’s emphasis on inventive and bold flavors. The Venice Beach establishment continues the Mahendros’ commitment to redefining Indian dining in Los Angeles by blending traditional ingredients and techniques with contemporary culinary trends and seasonal ingredients.
