BAE Systems, the UK-based defence contractor, is reportedly considering a bid for Robin Radar, a company specializing in drone detection technology. The potential acquisition could represent one of the largest defence sector transactions in Europe this year.
Robin Radar, currently owned by the Dutch private equity firm Parcom, is undergoing a sale process managed in conjunction with JP Morgan. Industry sources estimate the company's valuation at approximately £1.7 billion. The technology firm focuses on systems designed to detect and counter unmanned aerial vehicles, a capability increasingly in demand across military and security applications.
BAE Systems, a FTSE 100 company known for manufacturing naval vessels, fighter aircraft, munitions, and armored vehicles, is said to be competing with other private equity firms, including CVC and Blackstone. Additional potential bidders mentioned include Advent International and EQT Partners.
Representatives from BAE Systems declined to comment on the matter, stating they do not address market speculation. Likewise, no statements have been issued by Parcom or other interested parties.
The interest in Robin Radar reflects growing market demand for counter-drone technologies amid expanding use of unmanned systems in defence and security environments. If the acquisition proceeds, it could significantly enhance BAE Systems’ capabilities in this emerging domain.
