Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry has reported that multiple drones believed to be of Iranian origin targeted its territory early Saturday, condemning the attacks as a serious breach of sovereignty and an attempt to undermine ongoing peace efforts in the Middle East. The incident comes amid escalating tensions following an exchange of strikes between the United States and Iran, the first since both parties agreed to a ceasefire aimed at ending the regional conflict.

The ministry described the drone attacks as a flagrant violation and expressed strong condemnation of Iran’s actions, which it said jeopardize the fragile diplomatic progress underway. This development follows accusations from Washington earlier in the week that Tehran was responsible for an assault on a cargo ship in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime chokepoint for global energy supplies.

In response to the alleged Iranian aggression against commercial shipping, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) conducted precision strikes targeting Iranian missile and drone storage facilities, as well as coastal radar installations. CENTCOM officials characterized the U.S. action as defensive, aimed at countering what they called “unwarranted aggression” that violated the ceasefire agreement.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry quickly condemned the U.S. strikes as violations of the memorandum of understanding that underpinned the recent cessation of hostilities. The Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps claimed responsibility for launching retaliatory attacks on American positions within the Gulf region, issuing a warning that any further acts of aggression would provoke a more extensive response. This stance was publicly conveyed through a statement posted on state television’s Telegram channel.

The cycle of reciprocal military actions raises concerns about the stability of the ceasefire and the broader peace negotiations intended to secure long-term stability in the Middle East. The security of vital maritime routes in the Gulf remains a high priority for all parties involved as diplomatic efforts continue amid these renewed tensions.
