Banbury United secured a crucial 3-2 victory over Stamford on Saturday, ending the visitors’ run of nine consecutive league matches without a win and extending Stamford’s winless streak to ten games. The contest, held at Banbury’s home ground, saw Stamford take an early lead before Alex Prosser spearheaded a strong comeback for the hosts.

Stamford opened the scoring in the 24th minute when Sam Bayly penetrated the Banbury defense and set up Luca Alonzi, who calmly slotted the ball into an open goal. Prior to Banbury’s response, Prosser narrowly missed from 18 yards, and Josh Cavallo fired over from 20 yards as the home side sought an equalizer.

The deadlock was broken in the 38th minute when Prosser delivered a precise curled shot from 25 yards that found the net, leveling the match. Following the equalizer, Banbury pressed forward with increased intensity. Jacob Scott headed narrowly wide from a cross by AJ George, and Prosser struck the crossbar with a powerful effort from distance, placing Stamford under mounting pressure.

The second half saw Banbury continue their dominance. Just after the restart, in the 46th minute, Prosser capitalized on a loose ball outside the penalty area and fired a well-placed finish to put his team ahead. Three minutes later, Cavallo extended Banbury’s lead, converting a cross by Scott with a composed finish inside the box.

Stamford responded through substitute Tylor King, who scored with a low shot from 12 yards, reducing the deficit and reigniting hopes for the visitors. Despite late pressure, Banbury held firm to secure the victory.

The result provided Banbury United with a much-needed boost, while Stamford’s struggles continue to deepen as they remain without a league win after ten matches, having scored only two goals in that span.
