Derek Mathewson, host of the automotive-themed program "Bangers & Cash," traveled to Barnet in early September to investigate a Ford Sierra XR 4x4i that has remained unused since February 1995. The vehicle, notable for its unusual history, belonged to a local owner who reported it had been stolen on three separate occasions. Remarkably, two of those thefts occurred during the honeymoon of the owner and her late husband.

Mathewson, known for his expertise in classic car valuations and restorations, opted to drive to the location rather than fly, citing the convenience of ground travel for this particular mission. The intention was to assess the Sierra’s condition and determine its suitability for auction.

In addition to the Ford Sierra, the owner also offered a Fiat 500 for consideration. The smaller Italian model could present another opportunity for Mathewson to explore the classic car market on the show.

This episode of "Bangers & Cash" coincides with presenter Steph and her team heading to Berlin on a separate auction-related quest focused on art pieces. Meanwhile, Mathewson’s investigation of Barnet’s storied vehicles highlights the series’ commitment to uncovering hidden histories and valuations behind classic automobiles.
