The Bangladesh Bank website remained offline as of yesterday afternoon following a decision by the central bank to take the site down in response to a global cybersecurity alert. Visitors attempting to access the site were met with a maintenance notice stating the service was temporarily suspended and would be restored shortly.

Arief Hossain Khan, executive director and spokesperson for Bangladesh Bank, explained that the bank is closely monitoring the situation and prioritizing security before resuming normal operations. He emphasized that although the website is offline, the connection between Bangladesh Bank and commercial banks continues to function without disruption.

According to Khan, the central bank’s information technology department is actively working to address the issue, but no timeline has been provided for the website’s return to service. The precautionary measure follows recent warnings issued internationally regarding potential cyber threats targeting financial institutions.

The central bank’s website outage underscores the heightened vigilance among global financial entities amid increasing cybersecurity risks. Bangladesh Bank has opted for caution to safeguard its systems and the broader banking network during the ongoing review.
