Since its establishment in 1983, Bangladesh International Tutorial (BIT) has aimed to provide an education that goes beyond academic performance, focusing on cultivating independent thinkers, confident communicators, and responsible individuals prepared to navigate a complex global environment. Founded by the late Lubna Choudhury, the institution has maintained a commitment to academic excellence, strong values, and holistic student development for more than four decades.
Today, BIT is led by Choudhury’s daughters, Anika Rahman and Talita Choudhury. Rahman is a Princeton University graduate with a Juris Doctor degree from Columbia University, while Talita Choudhury holds a master’s degree in education from the City College of New York and is an alumna of Mount Holyoke College. Under their stewardship, the institution has continued to build upon its founder’s vision.
BIT delivers the Pearson Edexcel International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and International A Level curricula, providing a pathway for students to pursue higher education both within Bangladesh and internationally. The school emphasizes not only classroom instruction but also a wide array of extracurricular activities aimed at fostering creativity, teamwork, leadership, and confidence.
Student engagement opportunities at BIT range across arts, culture, sports, environmental awareness, media, and coding. Additionally, the institution places strong emphasis on debate and Model United Nations (MUN) programs. BIT’s Model United Nations initiative, BITMUN, enables students to simulate international diplomacy, encouraging research, public speaking, negotiation, and consideration of diverse viewpoints on global issues.
Physical education is also an integral part of the school’s approach. BIT offers a Wushu martial arts program designed to enhance students' fitness, focus, resilience, and self-discipline. Sports offerings include football, basketball, volleyball, and badminton. The institution operates four campuses in Uttara and Gulshan, featuring modern classrooms, science laboratories, libraries, and extensive sports facilities. The largest campus in Uttara spans 17 bighas and includes a 1,000-seat auditorium, open fields, and specialized facilities supporting both academic and extracurricular pursuits.
BIT’s comprehensive educational program is reflected in the success of its alumni, many of whom have advanced to international universities such as Johns Hopkins University, the University of Michigan, the University of Washington, and Mount Holyoke College. Beyond academics, the school aims to develop critical soft skills including communication, adaptability, and multicultural engagement, recognizing these as essential for success in higher education and professional environments.
To promote access to its programs, BIT offers merit-based scholarships and financial assistance to eligible students. The institution maintains a philosophy that balances academic achievement with personal growth, discipline, and social responsibility, inspired by its long-standing motto, “Serve the Nation.” This principle underscores the school’s focus on fostering both individual accomplishment and community contribution as it continues to evolve under current leadership.
