Bangladesh Krishi Bank (BKB) has become the first government-owned bank in the country to receive a Mastercard licence. The licence was officially presented during a ceremony held at the bank's headquarters on Tuesday.

Gautam Aggarwal, Mastercard's Division President for South Asia and Country Corporate Officer for India, handed over the licence to Sanchia Binte Ali, Managing Director of Bangladesh Krishi Bank. The event was also attended by several senior officials from BKB, including Deputy Managing Directors Md. Abdur Rahim, Mohd. Khaleduzzaman, and Abu Sayed Md. Rowshanul. Representing Mastercard was Sandun Hapugoda, the company’s Country Manager covering Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Nepal.

This development marks a significant milestone for Bangladesh Krishi Bank, expanding its ability to offer Mastercard-branded payment services to its customers. The certification from Mastercard is expected to enhance the bank’s digital payment infrastructure and strengthen its presence in the country’s financial sector. The partnership aligns with broader efforts to boost financial inclusion and digital banking in Bangladesh.
