Bangladesh has appointed Litton Das as the new captain of its One Day International (ODI) cricket team as the squad prepares for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup scheduled for next year. The 31-year-old wicketkeeper-batter takes over the role from Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who stepped down following Bangladesh’s 2-1 ODI series loss in Zimbabwe earlier this month.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz had been at the helm since June 2025, leading Bangladesh in 20 matches, with a record of 10 wins and nine losses. Under his leadership, the team made notable progress, achieving series victories against West Indies, Pakistan, Australia, and New Zealand in home conditions.

Litton Das, who has been captaining Bangladesh’s T20 International team, now assumes responsibility for the ODI side as well. He has previously served as stand-in ODI captain, securing three wins out of seven matches. Das brings significant international experience to the role, having played 104 ODIs for Bangladesh. He has scored 2,869 runs at an average of 30.84, including five centuries and 14 half-centuries, with a strike rate of 85.51.

The leadership change marks a strategic move by Bangladesh Cricket to strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming World Cup, aiming to build on recent successes and address challenges seen in their recent away series.
