Bangladesh moved closer to a comprehensive victory over Afghanistan in the one-off Test match at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Monday, driven by a century from litton Das. Litton scored 102 runs, marking his seventh Test hundred, as Bangladesh declared their second innings at 372 for 7. This declaration set Afghanistan a target of 479 runs to win after Bangladesh had established a first-innings lead of 106.

Afghanistan ended the day at 132 for 3, with batsmen Sediqullah Atal and Hashmatullah Shahidi at the crease on 35 and 19 runs respectively. The pitch appeared to be deteriorating, raising expectations that Bangladesh’s pacers and spinners would be able to capitalize on the conditions to close out the match on Tuesday.

Bangladesh’s fast bowler Ebadot Hossain struck early by removing Abdul Malik for just two runs in the second over. Hasan Mahmud, who had taken a hat-trick in Afghanistan’s first innings, added to the pressure by catching Shahidullah Kamal behind the stumps for 19. Rahmat Shah and Atal then put together an 82-run partnership for the third wicket. Rahmat Shah, who also scored a century in Afghanistan’s first innings of 240, fought valiantly with 51 runs, including five boundaries and a six, before falling to an Ebadot delivery caught behind by Litton.

Litton’s wicketkeeping was notable, as he completed his eighth dismissal behind the stumps in the match, breaking Bangladesh’s previous record of seven dismissals held by Khaled Mashud since February 2004.

Earlier in the day, Bangladesh resumed their innings at 223 for 6 and relied heavily on an unbeaten 149-run partnership for the seventh wicket between Litton and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who finished not out on 52. Afghanistan’s fielding lapses contributed to Bangladesh’s recovery, with multiple missed chances to dismiss Litton—including dropped catches at various scores and a missed run-out opportunity for Miraz—on a disappointing day for the visitors.

Afghanistan’s bowlers Mohammad Saleem, Zia-ur-Rehman, and Yamin Ahmadzai each claimed two wickets as Bangladesh built their commanding position in the match. With one day remaining, Bangladesh are well placed to secure a significant Test match win.
