Bangladeshi business leaders are set to intensify efforts to expand trade with Saudi Arabia, aiming to triple their exports to $1 billion by 2027, according to the Saudi Arabia-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SABCCI). Founded in 2025, SABCCI serves as a joint platform to enhance commercial and investment ties between Riyadh and Dhaka.

This year, SABCCI is organizing a series of events in partnership with various Bangladeshi government bodies, including the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Export Promotion Bureau. The first major initiative is a trade promotion mission scheduled for October 4 to 10, which will cover key Saudi cities such as Jeddah, Riyadh, Madinah, Dammam, Abha, and Makkah. The delegation will feature two cabinet-level ministers, senior officials, and 15 to 20 business representatives who will showcase Bangladeshi products and services.

According to SABCCI President Ashraful Haq Chowdhury, the chamber is targeting at least eight sectors beyond the country’s well-established ready-made garment industry. These include jute products, tea, agricultural equipment, and pharmaceuticals, reflecting a broader diversification strategy aimed at tapping into new markets within Saudi Arabia.

In addition to the October mission, the chamber plans to lead a larger delegation of around 60 participants to AgroFood Jeddah, a prominent trade exhibition, from December 8 to 10. The event will also feature an investment forum on December 9 designed to attract both Saudi and international investors. High-ranking officials, including representatives from Bangladesh’s Ministry of Finance, the governor of Bangladesh Bank, and other banking sector figures, are expected to attend.

Bilateral economic cooperation between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia has strengthened in recent years with significant investment agreements signed in 2023. Notably, Saudi investors have expanded into Bangladesh’s energy, seaport, and agriculture sectors. One prominent example includes Red Sea Gateway Terminal’s announcement to invest up to $1 billion in the logistics sector through the full-capacity operation of the Patenga Container Terminal at Chittagong port, Bangladesh’s largest seaport.

These developments underscore the growing economic partnership between the two countries as Bangladesh seeks to increase its export footprint in the Kingdom and attract further foreign investment.
