Bank Muscat and Oman Tourism College have jointly launched a specialized training programme aimed at individuals with Down syndrome, marking a new step toward inclusive professional development in the Sultanate of Oman. The initiative was formalized during a recent signing ceremony held at Bank Muscat’s Head Office in Airport Heights, with representatives from both institutions in attendance.

The registration period for the programme is open until Wednesday, July 1, 2026. This collaborative effort also involves several hotels across Oman, which have pledged to provide employment opportunities to participants who successfully complete the training. The programme is conducted in partnership with the Oman Down Syndrome Association to ensure targeted support for the participants.

Designed to qualify 20 beneficiaries, the programme offers two training tracks: Hospitality Support Services and Housekeeping. These courses aim to equip participants with vocational skills aligned with international hospitality standards, facilitating their entry into the workforce and promoting financial and professional independence.

Oman Tourism Academy is responsible for developing and delivering the curriculum within a supportive and inclusive learning environment, tailored specifically to meet the needs of trainees with Down syndrome. The training includes practical placements at participating hotels, providing hands-on experience under the guidance of experienced trainers.

Bank Muscat emphasized that the initiative reflects its ongoing commitment to fostering strategic partnerships across educational institutions, community organizations, and the private sector. The bank views such collaborations as essential for creating sustainable development impacts and broadening the scope of opportunities available to diverse segments of society.

In addition to supporting community empowerment programmes, Bank Muscat has also prioritized accessibility within its own operations. The bank has equipped 73 branches throughout various governorates and wilayats with facilities designed to accommodate customers with disabilities and intends to continue integrating such inclusive features in future branches.

Through these efforts, Bank Muscat and its partners aim to enhance the active participation of people with disabilities in the nation’s socio-economic development, reflecting broader goals of inclusivity and equal opportunity.
