Barclays reported a 17 percent increase in pre-tax profits for the first half of 2026, driven by strong performance in its investment banking division. The bank recorded £6.1 billion in profits before tax for the period, surpassing analysts’ expectations of £5.9 billion.

The investment bank contributed notably to the growth, with income rising 11 percent to £8 billion. This improvement was supported by gains in trading, equities, and fee-based revenue. Barclays’ UK banking operations also experienced growth, with income increasing by 8 percent to £4.5 billion.

The results reflect Barclays’ ability to capitalize on increased deal activity and market volatility during the first half of 2026.
