The Wilayat of Barka is experiencing a surge in coastal development, with key projects advancing that aim to enhance tourism and stimulate the local economy along Oman’s Al Batinah coast. Among these initiatives, the Al Muraisi waterfront project is nearing completion, while the Barka Marina is set to become a major integrated investment destination.
Barka Marina is planned as a multi-faceted facility encompassing 450 retail units, both indoors and outdoors, along with specialty markets for fish, meat, poultry, fruits, and vegetables. The complex will also feature various restaurants, entertainment venues including electronic games, a luxury hotel, and amenities such as a marina and water sports facilities. Dedicated shops highlighting local and heritage products are also part of the marina’s offerings.
Hilal al Fulaiti, Director of the Barka Municipality Department, reported that the Al Muraisi waterfront development is proceeding according to schedule, with much of the infrastructure and core facilities already in place. He emphasized that the project is intended to serve both residents and visitors by providing a distinctive waterfront space that will enhance Barka’s appeal as an emerging tourism hub along the Al Batinah coast.
Said al Yahmadi, a Municipal Council member representing Barka, described the ongoing initiatives as an integrated complex that combines commercial, recreational, and tourism functions. He highlighted the alignment of these projects with Oman Vision 2040, particularly in terms of diversifying income sources and advancing the tourism sector. Al Yahmadi noted that leveraging Barka’s unique coastal location is expected to generate sustainable economic opportunities for the local community while contributing to the broader national economy.
Malak al Saadi, a graduate of Sultan Qaboos University and social media influencer, commented on the broader significance of such development efforts across Oman. She characterized the Al Muraisi waterfront as a prime example of the nation’s ambition to improve quality of life and develop attractive tourism destinations in various governorates and wilayats. According to al Saadi, these projects will provide modern spaces where both residents and visitors can appreciate the natural beauty of Oman’s coast.
Together, these initiatives reflect a focused push to invest in Barka’s coastline, transforming the wilayat’s identity and positioning it as a growing destination within Oman’s expanding tourism landscape.
