Authorities are investigating a suspected homicide after human skeletal remains were found in a cement-filled barrel near the Durian Tunggal Dam reserve in Machap Baru, Alor Gajah. The discovery was made on Sunday morning by three anglers who noticed a blue barrel roughly 15 meters below road level and became suspicious of its contents.

Upon cutting open a small section of the barrel around 11:40 a.m., the men found what appeared to be human bones and promptly alerted local police. The remains, which included a detached skull, were encased in cement with no soft tissue remaining. Clothing items such as a sarong, shirt, and trousers were also recovered alongside the bones.

Alor Gajah OCPD Supt Ahmad Abu Bakar confirmed that initial post-mortem examinations, which entered a second day on Monday, verified the bones as human. However, investigators have yet to determine the victim’s gender or cause of death. The ongoing forensic analysis is expected to provide further clarification.

The case has been formally classified as murder and is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code. The police are continuing their inquiries to establish the identity of the victim and the circumstances surrounding the death.

Firefighters assisted in retrieving the heavy barrel from its location to the roadside, after which it was transported to Melaka Hospital for detailed examination. Authorities have not released additional information regarding possible suspects or motives at this stage.
