Barwa Real Estate Group, through its asset management subsidiary Waseef, has entered into a cooperation agreement with the Gulf Organization for Research and Development (GORD) aimed at enhancing the sustainability and operational performance of real estate assets. The memorandum was signed on October 29 at the Barwa pavilion during Cityscape Qatar 2026, with Waseef Chief Executive Officer Mohammed Ismail al-Emadi and GORD Founding Chairman Dr Yousef bin Mohammed Alhorr in attendance. Barwa Group Chief Executive Officer Ahmad Mohammed al-Tayeb was also present.
The partnership focuses on implementing the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS) standards to promote environmentally responsible building practices and improve energy and resource efficiency across Barwa’s property portfolio. The agreement also commits both parties to exchanging technical expertise and exploring tailored initiatives designed to optimize the performance of existing buildings, ensuring compliance with sustainability criteria while maintaining operational effectiveness and long-term asset value.
Al-Emadi emphasized that the collaboration reflects Waseef’s dedication to advancing the management and operation of real estate assets by leveraging specialized knowledge and internationally recognized sustainability standards. He noted that integrating sustainability into asset management is critical not only for enhancing operational efficiency but also for preserving the value of properties over time. “Through our cooperation with GORD, we look forward to benefiting from its expertise, exchanging knowledge on sustainable buildings, and exploring practical solutions suited to the characteristics and needs of different assets,” al-Emadi stated.
Dr Alhorr highlighted the broader significance of applying GSAS standards throughout the lifecycle of buildings, extending beyond initial design and construction to encompass ongoing management and operation. “We see this partnership as an important step towards expanding the application of GSAS standards in real estate asset management and operations,” he said, underscoring that sustainability involves sustained efforts to optimize building performance and resource efficiency.
This collaboration aligns with Barwa’s strategic commitment to enhancing sustainability within its real estate holdings, balancing environmental considerations with economic value and operational functionality. The initiative is expected to foster improved asset management practices and contribute to Qatar’s wider goals of sustainable urban development.
