Bath City advanced in the FA Trophy after a penalty shootout victory over Frome Town on Sunday. The match, held at Frome, remained goalless after regular time and extra time, leading to the decisive shootout.
During the penalty shootout, Bath City converted four of their attempts, with Reuben Reid, Joe Raynes, Enzio Boldewijn, and Matt Bowman all successfully scoring from the spot. Frome Town missed two penalties: Jon Davies saw his effort saved by Bath City goalkeeper Harvey Wiles-Richards, and Harry Lucas fired over the crossbar. Frome scorers included Albie Hopkins, Callum Gould, and Archie Ferris.
In open play, both sides had opportunities but were unable to break the deadlock. Bath City’s goalkeeper Kyle Phillips, marking his 300th appearance, made several key saves, including a notable stop against Frome’s Seweryn Streczen, whose header also struck the crossbar. Frome saw some promising moments on the counterattack, with Hopkins creating chances and Zack Ali squandering a key opportunity by shooting over from a well-delivered cross.
Bath City showed improvement in the second half after a quieter first half. Donovan Wilson had two efforts disallowed for offside, while Reid narrowly missed a header from a Joe Raynes cross. Frome's best chances included a strong header by Ferris that Wiles-Richards saved and earlier dangerous plays by Hopkins and Drew.
The result means Bath City maintain their strong penalty shootout record in the FA Trophy, progressing to the next round. Frome Town’s competitive performance ultimately fell short despite creating several scoring chances.
