Bayern Munich moved closer to securing their 35th Bundesliga title after Borussia Dortmund suffered a 2-1 defeat at Hoffenheim on Saturday. The loss leaves Bayern with a 12-point lead at the top of the table and needing just a single point from their match against Stuttgart on Sunday to clinch the championship.

Hoffenheim’s victory was largely thanks to club record goalscorer Andrej Kramaric, who converted two penalties in the match. Both spot-kicks came under challenging circumstances for Dortmund, with the first awarded after defender Niklas Suele handled the ball following a fall in the penalty area just before halftime. Suele was forced off the pitch with a suspected serious knee injury, according to Dortmund’s sporting director Lars Ricken. Kramaric’s two successful penalties brought his career tally to 156 goals, helping Hoffenheim overtake Bayer Leverkusen for fifth place as they continue their push for a Champions League spot.

Dortmund briefly reduced the deficit through substitute Serhou Guirassy but were unable to find an equalizer. The defeat marks Dortmund’s second consecutive loss after a season that previously included just two defeats. Defender Daniel Svensson acknowledged the team’s shortcomings, emphasizing the need for increased intensity to finish the season strongly.

Meanwhile, RB Leipzig strengthened their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League with a 3-1 away win at Eintracht Frankfurt. This marked Leipzig’s first victory in Frankfurt in 11 attempts and elevated them to third place in the league standings. The team’s youthful attack played a key role: 19-year-old Yan Diomande opened the scoring with a curling finish, before Frankfurt’s Hugo Larsson equalized via a header just before halftime. Leipzig regained the lead through 21-year-old Antonio Nusa and sealed the result late in the match with a goal from Konrad Harder.

In a historic moment for the league, Union Berlin’s new coach Marie-Louise Eta made her managerial debut as the first female head coach of a men’s team in one of Europe’s top five leagues. However, Union Berlin fell 2-1 at home to relegation-threatened Wolfsburg. Despite the result, Eta received a warm ovation from the home fans prior to kickoff.
