The BBC thriller *Nightsleeper* is set to return for a second season, shifting its high-stakes drama from a train to a ferry. The six-part series, currently in production and scheduled to air next year, will centre on a cyber-attack that disrupts a Belfast-to-Liverpool ferry crossing the Irish Sea.

The new season features Christian Cooke as Johnny, the vessel’s engineer, who must collaborate with a cybersecurity expert from the National Cyber Security Centre, portrayed by Colin Morgan, to prevent a disastrous outcome for those on board. Joining them is a strong ensemble cast including Rupert Penry-Jones, Sally Lindsay, Madeleine Mantock, Ian McElhinney, and Alexander Arnold.

The original series, starring Joe Cole, unfolded aboard a Glasgow-to-London overnight train after a device capable of widespread destruction was found among the passengers. While the first season’s slightly tongue-in-cheek tone divided some viewers, it nevertheless attracted substantial viewership and critical attention.

Nick Leather, the creator and writer of *Nightsleeper*, expressed enthusiasm about the new season, noting the familiarity of the route and the new setting’s potential for suspense. “We’ve assembled a wonderful cast. I can’t wait to welcome the audience on board for a non-stop night to remember,” Leather said.

Filming will largely take place in Belfast, capturing the tense atmosphere as the narrative explores threats emerging beneath the surface of the voyage. BBC Drama Director Lindsay Salt commented on the fresh installment: “Nick has delivered another brilliantly gripping story. With danger lurking beneath the surface at every turn, viewers are in for a truly nail-biting journey.”
