Welsh actor Matthew Trevannion has taken on the role of Wayne Couzens, the former Metropolitan Police officer convicted of the abduction, rape, and murder of Sarah Everard, in a new BBC drama that has sparked controversy. The two-part series, titled *Among Us*, depicts the harrowing events surrounding the 2021 killing of the 33-year-old marketing executive.

Recent images from the production show Trevannion closely resembling Couzens, complete with a shaved head and a grim demeanor. Filming captures moments such as Couzens’ arrest, with the actor wearing casual clothes while being led to a police vehicle. Other scenes include Trevannion driving a car similar to the vehicle Couzens used after falsely detaining Everard. The production was shot in locations including Orpington and Bromley, with a residential street doubling for Couzens’ home in Deal, Kent.

Trevannion, 43, was born in Pontypool, Gwent, and is known for previous roles in Netflix’s *Kaos*, ITV’s *Until I Kill You*, and the BBC drama *Wanderlust*. Alongside him, Lisa McGrillis appears as DCI Katherine Goodwin, the detective who led the investigation into the murder.

The drama is penned by Bafta-winning writer Jeff Pope and produced by Etta Pictures for the BBC. Pope’s involvement has drawn criticism, particularly from female screenwriters. Earlier this year, an open letter endorsed by 400 female writers expressed strong dissatisfaction with the decision to appoint a male writer for a story involving such sensitive subject matter. Pope’s appointment has been viewed by some as insensitive to the gendered nature of the crime.

In response, the BBC has defended the project, emphasizing its commitment to handling the story with care and respect. The network maintains that the drama aims to explore the events responsibly and thoughtfully, despite the public backlash. The production seeks to provide an insight into the investigation while acknowledging the complexities and sensitivities surrounding the case.
