The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a 15-member squad for the first Test match against the West Indies, scheduled to begin on October 28 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. This match marks the beginning of the West Indies’ tour of Bangladesh.
Najmul Hossain Shanto will lead the Bangladesh side as captain, with all-rounder Mehidy Hassan Miraz appointed as vice-captain. The team’s opening batting responsibilities will be shared by Shadman Islam and left-handed batsman Tanzid Hasan. The middle order comprises experienced players including Mushfiqur Rahim, Mominul Haque, Litton Kumer Das, Tawhid Hridoy, and wicketkeeper-batsman Jaker Ali Anik.
The bowling lineup features three spinners: left-arm orthodox Taijul Islam, and off-spinners Mehidy Hassan Miraz and Nayeem Hasan. The pace attack consists of Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Ebadot Hossain, and left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam, providing a balanced mix of pace and spin for the home side.
In preparation for the match, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has arranged for spectators to access certain stands free of charge. Fans will be able to watch the five-day Test from the North and South stands without purchasing tickets, a move aimed at encouraging greater attendance and support for the home team.
This Test will set the tone for the West Indies’ tour in Bangladesh, as both teams look to gain an early advantage in the series.
