A fire at a beach resort in southeastern Bangladesh on Saturday resulted in the deaths of 10 people and injured four others, officials reported. The blaze occurred at Tuptup Resto and Resort located in Inani, Cox’s Bazar district, a well-known spot for domestic tourists near the Bay of Bengal.
According to Syed Mohammad Morshed Hossain, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defense in Cox’s Bazar, the fire began in the morning and rapidly engulfed the three-story wooden structure. The speed and intensity of the fire made evacuation difficult.
Saiful Islam, a volunteer who responded to the scene, said some individuals had sought refuge in the resort’s washrooms but were unable to escape and died there. Among the victims were women and children.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire and assess the circumstances surrounding the incident. Emergency services worked to contain the blaze and provide aid to those injured. No further details about the identities of the victims or the exact cause of the fire have been released.
