Karl Burke’s talented mare Beautiful Diamond is poised to defend her title in the Arran Scottish Sprint EBF Fillies’ Stakes at Ayr, a race where she has previously demonstrated strong form. The five-year-old daughter of Twilight Son won the event last year by two and a half lengths and has excelled at the southwest Scotland course, achieving three victories and a third-place finish in her four prior starts there. Notably, one of those wins was a dead heat with Azure Blue.

This season, Beautiful Diamond has moved into Group company and delivered solid performances, including a third-place finish behind stablemate Night Raider in May’s Temple Stakes at Haydock. In June’s Land O’Burns Fillies’ Stakes, she narrowly missed out, finishing just a length behind Argentine Tango. Following a summer break, Beautiful Diamond is expected to return refreshed and in competitive form.

Among the other notable runners at Ayr is Hickory Lad, trained by Philip Makin, who aims to claim his first Listed victory in the British EBF Stallions Harry Rosebery Stakes. The five-furlong specialist has recorded two wins from seven starts, including three appearances in stakes company. Most recently, he finished third by just over a length in the Julia Graves Roses Stakes during the Ebor Festival. His consistent performances over the shortest sprint distance mark him as a strong contender.

Veteran sprinter Jordan Electrics, trained by Jim Goldie, will also compete in the Ladbrokes Bronze Cup. Despite being 10 years old, the horse remains a capable performer when conditions suit and could benefit from a favorable draw.

At Newbury, Spy Chief looks to rebound in the Dubai Duty Free Cup Stakes under the guidance of John and Thady Gosden. The horse underperformed in his latest outing in the Wokingham Stakes at Royal Ascot, but with Ryan Moore booked to ride, connections may have pinpointed this event as a suitable target.

Charlie Appleby is set to saddle Bin Jahwar in the Haynes Hanson & Clark Conditions Stakes at Newbury. The Ghaiyyath colt impressed on debut with an eight-and-a-half length victory at Newmarket and will be ridden by William Buick, replacing Billy Loughnane. The colt appears to be progressing well following only one previous start.

In National Hunt racing at Newton Abbot, Nigel and Willy Twiston-Davies bring Intosomethinggood to contest the Devondale Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase. A four-time winner over hurdles, the ten-year-old faces the challenge of carrying top weight but is considered a strong candidate barring unforeseen issues.

Meanwhile, on the all-weather surface at Wolverhampton, Niffler aims to extend his winning streak to four in the Black Country Mental Health 50th Anniversary Handicap. The Sir Mark Prescott-trained horse has thrived since stepping up in distance and will be partnered once again by Luke Morris.
