Alan Dowson has stepped down as manager of Hampton & Richmond Borough following a disappointing start to the 2026-27 National League South season. The 56-year-old left the club after last Saturday’s 2-0 home defeat to Ebbsfleet United, which left Hampton & Richmond among the bottom four teams in the league.

Dowson’s departure marks the end of his second spell in charge at the Beveree Stadium. He initially took the reins in 2011, leading the Beavers to the 2014-15 Isthmian Premier League title before leaving in 2015 for Woking. During his four years at Woking, he guided the club to promotion. After a brief hiatus, he returned to management with Dartford in 2022, a position he held until January 2024. Short spells with Hemel Hempstead Town and Aldershot Town followed before he rejoined Hampton last December.

His return last season saw the club avoid relegation, but this campaign has proved more challenging. The Beavers have earned only eight points from their first 11 matches, prompting a change in leadership.

Hampton chairman Ben Hudson expressed gratitude to Dowson, stating that he “deserves our sincere thanks for everything he has done for the Beavers, both on and off the pitch.” The club added that while the results did not meet Dowson’s own high standards, both the organization and its supporters appreciate his significant contributions across his two tenures.

Scott Forbes, chairman of the club’s investor group, also praised Dowson, describing him as “a respected manager and a tireless ambassador for the club and the community.”

The club has yet to announce a replacement as it looks to reverse its poor results and move away from the relegation zone in the coming weeks.
