Bed Bath & Beyond is reopening retail stores in partnership with The Container Store, marking the company's return to brick-and-mortar locations after filing for bankruptcy in 2023. The limited rollout will include 22 stores across the United States, featuring two new outlets in Southern California, specifically in Costa Mesa and Century City.
The revival follows Bed Bath & Beyond’s acquisition by Overstock.com, which rebranded as Beyond Inc. The acquisition included The Container Store, which itself had undergone bankruptcy proceedings in 2024 and emerged in early 2025. The deal, valued at approximately $150 million in stock and convertible notes, is part of Beyond Inc.’s strategy to reposition the brand by integrating home goods and organizational products under one roof. The new stores, branded as Bed Bath & Beyond + The Container Store, will offer a range of items including bed sheets, pillows, kitchen gadgets, and home organization solutions.
As an added customer incentive, the company announced it will accept all of its traditional blue-and-white coupons, regardless of expiration date, until July 13. The move was met with enthusiasm from longtime customers and coupon collectors who often saved the coupons for future use. The promotions also include a contest to identify the oldest unused coupon with a grand prize of a $100,000 home renovation. Amy Sullivan, president of Bed Bath & Beyond Inc., emphasized the sentimental value many customers placed on these coupons, noting their longstanding appeal.
The announcement comes less than a year after Beyond Inc. Executive Chairman Marcus Lemonis publicly stated he would not reopen stores in California, citing the state’s challenging regulatory and business environment. That stance has since changed, with plans for 12 new storefronts in California alone, including five in the Southern California region. California Governor Gavin Newsom welcomed the company’s return, highlighting the state’s strong economy and its welcoming attitude toward businesses.
The new store concept aims to blend the offerings of both brands, providing customers a seamless shopping experience for home essentials and organization. Lemonis underscored this integrated approach, stating that customers do not view their homes in isolated categories and that the combined stores would deliver comprehensive solutions in one location.
With this reopening, Bed Bath & Beyond seeks to revive its presence in the competitive home goods market and reconnect with customers who had experienced the chain’s departure following its bankruptcy and closure of all physical stores last year.
