Marquee Singapore, the country’s largest nightclub located at Marina Bay Sands, has cemented its reputation as one of the premier destinations for Formula 1 weekend parties, offering a unique attraction that sets it apart from other nightlife venues. Central to its appeal during the F1 festivities from October 9 to 11 is “The Big Q,” a 30-meter-tall indoor ferris wheel that overlooks the club’s dance floor.

Since Marquee’s opening in 2019, the ferris wheel has been a signature feature, providing guests with sweeping views of live performances by internationally renowned DJs such as Anya, Diplo, Martin Garrix, and Italian-American DJ Anyma, who made his Singapore debut during the event. The ride allows patrons to experience a bird’s-eye perspective of the club’s energy, with each rotation lasting approximately 10 to 15 minutes and being free of charge for attendees.

Scott Radlins, general manager of Marquee Singapore, emphasized the importance of the ferris wheel as more than a novelty attraction, describing it as a defining element of the club’s overall experience. He highlighted efforts to enhance integration between the ride and live performances through synchronized lighting and visual effects, contributing to an immersive atmosphere that complements the lineup of world-class artists.

The operation of The Big Q is managed by Uncle Ringo, a well-established local carnival and funfair company known for its presence at community events since 1984. Joyce Lee, Uncle Ringo’s director, outlined the stringent safety protocols in place for the daily operations of the ride, which runs from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on weekends and public holiday eves. The safety regime includes thorough physical and electrical inspections before opening each night, with a focus on structural integrity and functionality, particularly given the challenges posed by continuous exposure to high-decibel music and intense bass vibrations.

To ensure compliance with safety standards, The Big Q undergoes annual audits conducted by an independent conformity assessor from the United Kingdom. This external review supplements local regulatory inspections and helps maintain the ride’s adherence to international safety requirements.

The club enforces strict policies to prevent intoxicated guests from boarding the ferris wheel. Uncle Ringo operators coordinate with Marquee’s security personnel to discreetly evaluate guest sobriety, prioritizing safety without detracting from the customer experience. In the event of a power outage, the ferris wheel is equipped with automatic brakes to secure the structure and a manual recovery system operated in conjunction with Marquee’s Certified Emergency Response Team to ensure orderly evacuation.

Overall, The Big Q continues to serve both as a distinctive entertainment feature and a carefully managed attraction, drawing a diverse mix of partygoers and internationally acclaimed performers while maintaining a high standard of operational safety within the vibrant setting of Singapore’s nightlife scene.
