China has dismissed recent allegations that it has supplied military equipment and components linked to the missile programs of Yemen’s Houthi group, calling the claims unfounded. Shao Zheng, chargé d’affaires at the Chinese Embassy in Yemen, emphasized that Beijing enforces strict controls on exports of dual-use materials and abides by relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
In an interview, Shao stated that China is willing to thoroughly investigate any evidence or reports related to the accusations and urged the Yemeni government to provide any relevant information. He reiterated that Beijing has communicated its readiness to examine such material and conduct comprehensive inquiries.
Shao highlighted China’s ongoing monitoring of the security situation in Yemen and reaffirmed Beijing’s support for the internationally recognized Yemeni government, along with its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national unity. He described Yemen as a close friend and valued partner, noting the two countries’ nearly 70 years of diplomatic relations.
Efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation continue across multiple sectors including political, economic, cultural, educational, and scientific fields. Recent commemorations marking the anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Yemen included seminars, interviews, and press conferences. Shao remarked that many Yemenis, including government officials, have praised the depth of the bilateral relationship, with some characterizing the friendship as “deeper than the ocean and higher than the mountains.”
Coordination between Beijing and the Yemeni government remains robust, with ongoing communication through official correspondence, phone calls, and visits. China recently hosted several Yemeni officials, including the interior minister, who spent 10 days discussing enhanced cooperation on public security measures. Additionally, a delegation of roughly 10 Yemeni government representatives is scheduled to visit China later this month, with authorities preparing a comprehensive program for their stay.
Shao also noted educational exchanges between the two countries, citing a group of about 10 Yemeni students from the University of Aden and other institutions who visited China last month. These initiatives form part of broader efforts to deepen engagement and partnership between the two nations.
