The New York Racing Association (NYRA) has canceled the live racing schedule at Belmont Park for this weekend due to an approaching nor’easter. Forecasts predict winds exceeding 50 miles per hour accompanied by 2 to 3 inches of rainfall, creating unsafe conditions for both participants and attendees.

As a result, scheduled racing events for Saturday and Sunday have been called off. To accommodate the postponed races, NYRA has adjusted its calendar, adding make-up days on September 30 and every Wednesday throughout October. Among the rescheduled contests are six graded stakes, including two prominent Grade 1 events: the $500,000 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic and the $500,000 Flower Bowl, both set to take place on October 1.

Belmont Park, located in Elmont, New York, operates under NYRA, which manages thoroughbred horse racing in the state. The decision to cancel came as officials prioritized safety concerns amid deteriorating weather conditions brought by the nor’easter, which poses risks such as high winds and heavy rain.

This adjustment to the race schedule underscores NYRA's efforts to ensure that key races proceed under optimal conditions while minimizing disruption for participants, staff, and spectators.
