PUTRAJAYA — Family members of Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali expressed deep mourning following her passing, reflecting on the many memories shared with the respected matriarch.

Her son, Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir, described his feelings in an interview after the funeral, emphasizing the abundance of time the family had with her in recent months. “There’s no one last memory. There’s a million memories,” he said, noting that multiple family gatherings occurred in the weeks leading up to her death.

Mokhzani also addressed concerns about his father, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who lost his life partner of over 70 years. He stated that his father was managing the loss as best as possible, adding, “Today is a very, very extraordinary day… he’ll be okay, God willing.”

Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, Mokhzani’s younger brother, provided additional context about their mother’s condition prior to her passing. He recalled visiting her at the National Heart Institute (IJN) on Sunday night, where she conveyed that she felt prepared to depart. “She was in very good spirits, but she told me that she was already prepared to leave us all,” Mukhriz said.

Tun Dr Siti Hasmah had been admitted to IJN on Saturday for treatment of an unspecified ailment. However, her condition worsened following a heart attack at approximately 8 a.m. on Monday, which led to her passing.

Mukhriz conveyed deep sorrow on behalf of the family, highlighting the profound loss felt by Tun Dr Mahathir. He also extended gratitude to those who offered condolences and came to pay their respects, thanking the public for their support during this period of mourning.
