Ben Gannon-Doak has expressed his willingness to accept a substitute role for Scotland’s upcoming World Cup group stage match against Morocco. The Bournemouth winger, who played a significant part in Scotland’s 1-0 victory over Haiti in their tournament opener, emphasized that his primary focus remains on the team's success rather than his personal playing time.

The 20-year-old told reporters he was comfortable with either starting or coming off the bench, saying the final decision rests with Scotland manager Steve Clarke. “I just want Scotland to win,” Gannon-Doak said. “If the gaffer thinks the best way to do that is for me to have an impact off the bench, that’s what I need to prepare to do.” He acknowledged the pressures of public opinion but stressed the importance of aligning with the manager’s strategy and supporting the squad’s objectives over individual recognition.

Scotland’s second group match is scheduled for Friday in Boston, where the team is preparing to face Morocco, a side Gannon-Doak regards as highly capable. He noted the competitive nature of the World Cup, highlighting that every opponent possesses qualities that can challenge Scotland. Reflecting on the team's mindset, he said, “There’s a good buzz about the place… We know how good the next two opponents are and are very confident we can get a result.”

He also commented on the experienced makeup of the Scottish squad, pointing out the valuable perspective of veteran players who have endured both successes and setbacks with the national team. “A few of the older players said in their interviews they have been through a lot of rubbish and a lot of highs as well,” Gannon-Doak said. “I think now is the most prepared as a squad we have been. Luckily, I have not actually been there for a lot of the lows.”

As Scotland prepares for the critical phase of their World Cup campaign, Gannon-Doak’s remarks underline a collective team focus and readiness to adapt to the manager’s plans as they pursue further progress in the tournament.
