Ben Stokes has indicated his intention to continue playing cricket for Durham following his retirement from international duty with England. Stokes, who has not registered for the 2026 season of The Hundred or the 2027 Indian Premier League, will be ineligible to participate in those competitions, though he remains a possible participant in the SA20 league in South Africa during the upcoming winter.
Reports suggest that Stokes may have reached an understanding with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) that allows him to receive payments from the board until October 2027. Under this arrangement, he could also expand his involvement in coaching, building on his prior work with England’s England Lions side.
While continuing as a player for Durham appears to be his short-term plan, coaching is widely viewed as a likely focus for Stokes in the longer term. His experience on the international and domestic stages positions him as a valuable resource for developing cricket talent in England as he transitions out of a playing career.
