The West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee on Thursday issued a document titled a "people’s chargesheet," leveling a series of allegations against the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in the state and the BJP-led Central government. The chargesheet asserts that West Bengal has suffered from misgovernance and neglect, impacting various sectors including the economy, social cohesion, and public welfare.
The Congress accused the TMC administration of presiding over a "syndicate raj," pointing to numerous financial scandals and irregularities in recruitment processes as evidence of institutional corruption. Specific cases cited include the Saradha and Rose Valley chit fund scams, a controversial school recruitment issue, and a ration distribution scandal. The document also highlighted ongoing concerns such as rising public debt, industrial decline, youth migration out of the state, and repeated incidents of violence against women and communal tensions, all of which it attributes to governance deficiencies.
In addition to critiquing the state government, the Congress charged the Central government with neglecting West Bengal, alleging that it has failed to adequately address the state's needs on the national stage, including the allocation of funds and protection of cultural identity.
A senior Congress leader involved in releasing the document stated that the people of West Bengal deserve greater accountability and expressed frustration over what was described as a politics of blame-shifting between the two major political forces. The chargesheet calls for transparent governance and emphasizes the need for remedies to the issues it outlines, underscoring the party’s demand for reform.
