Bersatu has indicated its willingness to engage in discussions with any political coalition that allows space for negotiations ahead of the upcoming Melaka state election. The party's information chief, Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz, emphasized that while Bersatu remains open to potential collaborations, any agreement would need to align with the party’s core principles and prioritize the interests of Melaka and its residents.
Tun Faisal spoke after attending a closed-door pre-election dinner in Melaka on Monday, describing the event as an informal networking session rather than a formal negotiation. He noted that the gathering was aimed at exchanging views on political developments and experiences from other states, and that the invitation came from Melaka political leaders. He further clarified that any formal seat negotiations would be conducted by party leaderships. Bersatu is reportedly ready to hold talks with any interested coalition, including Barisan Nasional.
The dinner, which was attended by notable figures such as Melaka PKR acting chief Adam Adli Abdul Halim, Amanah state chairman Datuk Ashraf Mukhlis Minghat, and Melaka Bersatu election director Datuk Seri Mohamad Ali Mohamad, has sparked speculation about potential cooperation between Bersatu and Pakatan Harapan.
However, Melaka Pakatan deputy chairman Khoo Poay Tiong dismissed the idea of an alliance with Bersatu for the upcoming polls. Speaking at a press conference held outside Melaka Sentral bus terminal, Khoo described the dinner as a mere gesture of courtesy, not a step toward an electoral pact. He reiterated that Pakatan would maintain its existing coalition partners and confirmed there would be no new external parties joining the coalition for the Melaka election.
As the election approaches, Bersatu’s openness to negotiation contrasts with Pakatan’s firm stance on retaining its current alliance, indicating divergent approaches as the parties position themselves for the state polls.
