Recognizing this, purpose-built student accommodations (PBSA) have become a key element in higher education globally. In Malaysia, while the PBSA sector continues to develop, Taylor's Residence has emerged as a prominent provider, shaping student living for over 20 years.
Taylor’s Residence operates under a vision to create the “Best Place to Stay,” emphasizing the impact of residential environments on students’ lives rather than just the physical quality of buildings. Central to its approach is the award-winning R!SE Residential Living Programme, which integrates accommodation with broader student experience through a focus on four dimensions of wellbeing: physical, emotional, social, and intellectual. This framework aims to help students develop resilience, foster meaningful connections, and build a strong sense of purpose.
The company prioritizes creating communities where students from diverse backgrounds can find support, engage socially, and be inspired to grow beyond academics. To support student wellbeing, the residential experience is carefully curated through dedicated teams including Residential Support, Wellbeing Ambassadors, and student leaders. These resources help students transition into university life, offer pastoral care, and provide leadership opportunities alongside a range of social activities.
Sustainability and social responsibility are also core to Taylor’s Residence’s mission, embedding environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles into everyday living. One key initiative is LaunchPad, a student-led service learning programme started in 2019 aimed at addressing period poverty and advancing menstrual health in underserved Malaysian communities. Through this project, students produce reusable sanitary pads from upcycled materials, collaborating with NGOs and community groups to empower beneficiaries and promote sustainable health practices. Initially supporting refugee populations, the programme expanded in 2025 to work with orang asli communities, focusing on education, production, and capacity-building. To date, LaunchPad has engaged over 400 student volunteers, partnered with 21 organisations, and distributed more than 5,300 reusable pads to over 1,500 individuals.
Environmental stewardship is addressed through REGrow, a circular food waste management initiative that processes organic waste using black soldier fly bio-conversion technology. This converts food waste into organic fertiliser and protein-rich larvae biomass, fostering a circular economy that supports local communities, including orang asli groups practicing sustainable farming. In its first year, REGrow diverted nearly 800 kilograms of food waste from landfill, reduced carbon emissions by about two tonnes, and produced over 120 kilograms of organic fertilizer. This programme, alongside resident-led recycling and waste segregation efforts, integrates environmental responsibility into daily student life.
Taylor’s Residence’s focus on wellbeing, residential quality, and ESG has earned it national and regional awards. These include The Star’s ESG Positive Impact Awards in 2025, the Asia Pacific Student Accommodation Association Awards in 2026, and recognition from Times Higher Education in 2022 and 2023 for student support and regional development contributions.
