Canada has named Bianca Andreescu, Kayla Cross, Gabriela Dabrowski, and Ariana Arseneault to its Billie Jean King Cup team for next month’s playoff tie against Brazil. Tennis Canada announced the squad on Wednesday ahead of the November 20-21 matches in Vitoria, Brazil, to be played on outdoor clay courts.
The eighth-ranked Canadian team will compete against 19th-ranked Brazil in a best-of-five series, with the winner securing a place in the 2027 Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers. Canada is aiming to build on its status as the reigning champion, having won the competition in 2023.
Andreescu, who captured the 2019 U.S. Open title, recently recorded her biggest tournament victory since that year by winning a WTA 125 event in Italy. Gabriela Dabrowski, ranked fourth in the world in doubles, will be making her 21st appearance in the Billie Jean King Cup. Dabrowski may also face her regular doubles partner, Brazil’s Luisa Stefani, during the tie.
Historically, Canada holds a 12-0 record against Brazil in the Billie Jean King Cup. However, the team comes into the tie following a 3-1 loss to Kazakhstan in the qualifiers earlier this year, a result that marked a setback in their recent form.
The upcoming matches in Brazil will be a critical test for the Canadian team as they seek to maintain their strong position in the international competition and continue their momentum from last year’s title victory.
