Among those backing Democrats, 80% said their support is driven primarily by opposition to Trump rather than expectations of economic or personal financial improvement. In contrast, 61% of voters favoring Republicans cited support for Trump as their main reason, while 36% said their choice was unrelated to him.

Historically, the party holding the White House tends to lose seats in midterm elections; over the past 90 years, only twice has the incumbent party avoided losses. Many analysts suggest this pattern, combined with ongoing economic concerns and Trump's relatively low approval ratings, may contribute to Republican setbacks this year.

Current projections indicate Democrats are poised to gain the majority in the House of Representatives. CBS’s battleground tracker estimates Democrats will hold 228 seats, surpassing the Republican total of 207. This would represent a substantial shift from the existing narrow Republican majority of 219 to 214.

Meanwhile, races for the Senate remain highly competitive, with most polls showing no clear frontrunner for control of the chamber. The closely contested Senate battlegrounds suggest that the upper house’s balance of power could hinge on a handful of key states.
