A woman in the United Kingdom has come forward with a personal account of being deceived into marriage by a man who later vanished and established a second family abroad. The man disappeared 15 years ago after marrying her, and has now reappeared seeking a divorce and access to her financial assets.

The woman, born and raised in the UK to an Indian family, met her husband during a visit to India. Introduced by her grandmother, the man initially presented himself as romantic and committed to relocating permanently to the UK. Despite her parents’ initial reservations about the marriage to a man she had recently met, the couple wed in the UK when she was 20 years old. However, she said the relationship quickly deteriorated, with the husband refusing to work and exhibiting controlling and abusive behavior.

Two years into the marriage, he told her he would return to India to visit his parents and asked her to cover his airfare. After he left, he never returned. Later, she learned through family members that he had married another woman in India and fathered three children. Attempts to contact him went unanswered, and when she reported the issue to police on grounds of bigamy, authorities said they could not proceed without the second marriage certificate, which she was unable to obtain.

Over the years, the woman advanced professionally and now rents a comfortable flat. She also heard that the husband’s second marriage ended in separation. Recently, he contacted her demanding a divorce, threatening to claim her savings accumulated over 15 years.

Legal experts emphasize that long-term separation and lack of contact may be significant factors in her favor. Experts advise individuals in similar situations to seek immediate legal counsel. Organizations offering free legal support include Rights of Women and Citizens Advice, which can provide guidance on family law matters.
