Billericay Town’s away fixture against Weston-super-Mare was abandoned after just 30 minutes due to deteriorating weather conditions. The match, held in Somerset on October 25, saw heavy rain disrupt play shortly after a goal was scored.
Weston-super-Mare began the game with promising attacking moves, including an early effort by Louis Britton, who found the net within five minutes, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside. Britton continued to pose a threat, narrowly missing a volley inside the penalty area shortly thereafter.
The conditions on the pitch were increasingly difficult, with the ball frequently slowing down in standing water. Weston nearly took advantage around the 15-minute mark when a misplaced back pass to Billericay’s debutant goalkeeper Finley Woodham was intercepted by Bradley Ash. Ash advanced and took a shot from close range, but Billericay’s defence managed to block the effort.
Despite Weston-super-Mare’s bright start, the match’s opening goal came from Billericay Town. Macaulay Bonne struck a powerful volley into the top corner of Max Harris’ goal from the edge of the penalty area in the 22nd minute. The strike proved unstoppable and put the visitors ahead against the run of play.
Play continued for only eight more minutes before worsening weather conditions forced the referee to call off the match. The decision to abandon the fixture was made with player safety and pitch conditions in mind, as the waterlogged surface made continuing the game unfeasible.
Officials and teams expressed understanding of the choice, with the heavy rain making meaningful play impossible. Billericay Town had traveled 183 miles from Essex for the fixture, and despite the challenging environment, all parties had hoped to complete the match.
No rescheduled date has been confirmed at this time.
