In a historic development in West Bengal politics, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was sworn in as the new state government following its decisive victory in the recent assembly elections. The oath-taking ceremony took place on Saturday in Kolkata, marking a significant shift in the region's political landscape.
Shubendu Adhikari took the oath as Chief Minister, officially assuming leadership of the state government. The ceremony was attended by prominent national leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, alongside several central ministers and the state Governor, R. N. Ravi.
Along with Adhikari, several newly appointed ministers were sworn in, including Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Ashok Kirtaniya, Khudiram Tudu, and Nitish Pramanik. The event underscored the BJP’s strengthened foothold in West Bengal following the elections.
Prime Minister Modi paid tribute to the people of West Bengal during the ceremony, acknowledging their role in delivering the party’s landmark victory. The establishment of the new BJP-led government represents a notable political change in a state long dominated by other regional parties.
