Leek secured their first away league victory of the season with a 2-1 win over Lancaster at Giant Axe on Saturday. The match featured a closely contested battle, with both sides creating several scoring opportunities.
Lancaster began strongly, pressing early in the game. Dom Lawson had an early shot saved by Leek goalkeeper Yusuf Mersin in the second minute. The home side continued their attacking efforts, with Lawson and Steven Yawson combining well to create another chance in the 24th minute, but Lawson’s shot went narrowly wide.
Leek took the lead in the 28th minute when Lucas Weir delivered a precise pass that broke through the defense, allowing Jack Griffiths to run onto the ball and score past Cameron Graham. Lancaster responded quickly, leveling the score in the 42nd minute. A clearance from Leek fell to Jules Flanagan, whose shot from the edge of the penalty area deflected off a defender and into the net.
Only two minutes later, Leek restored their advantage. A clearance failure by Lancaster allowed the ball to be played into the penalty area, where Connor Heath outmuscled a defender before slotting the ball past Graham to make it 2-1.
In the second half, Lancaster pushed forward in search of an equalizer. Joe Amison headed a chance that was saved by Mersin, who also blocked a shot from James Nolan. The closest Lancaster came to leveling was in the 65th minute when Sam Bailey’s free kick beat the wall but struck the post.
Leek’s defense held firm in the final stages, securing a vital three points on the road in what proved to be a competitive fixture.
