The bodies of three siblings were recovered from the Meghna River in Narayanganj’s Sonargaon upazila on Saturday, two days after a trawler sank in the area. The deceased were identified as Samina, 17, Sajib, 24, and Samin, 5, all residents of Homna upazila in Cumilla. Their father, Helel Uddin, remained unaccounted for at the time of reporting.

The recovery operation was conducted by members of the Fire Service and Civil Defence along with the river police at Baiddyerbazar Ghat. Abdullah Al Arefin, deputy director of the Narayanganj Fire Service, confirmed that the search for the remaining missing person was ongoing.

The trawler went down around 1:30 p.m. on Thursday after encountering a storm. Rescue efforts commenced approximately three hours later, according to Mohammad Zahed Chowdhury, station master of the Sonargaon Fire Service and Civil Defence Station. Fourteen people were on board at the time of the incident.

Shah Kamal, inspector and in-charge of the Baidyerbazar naval police outpost, said the trawler sank as a result of adverse weather conditions. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident and are engaged in ongoing search and rescue operations.
