Seven individuals have been detained on suspicion of murder following the discovery of a newborn baby’s body in a residence in Sheffield. The incident came to police attention early Sunday morning in the Wincobank area.

Officers responded to a call at approximately 6 a.m. after concerns were raised about the welfare of a newborn at a rented property. Upon arrival, they found the body of a baby girl, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Neighbors reported that a Slovakian family had occupied the house for around eight months. The household reportedly included two teenage girls, a man in his early twenties, and a boy approximately 11 years old. Despite their presence, residents in the neighborhood noted that they had not seen any signs of a pregnancy.

One neighbor said that police informed them the baby died around 10 p.m. on Saturday. The resident also stated that all members of the family left the house soon after the incident occurred, describing the newborn as "abandoned." Local law enforcement took possession of CCTV footage from the area as part of the ongoing investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector Emma Knight of South Yorkshire Police confirmed that the seven suspects remain in custody as inquiries continue. Authorities have not disclosed further details about the relationship between the individuals detained and the deceased infant or the circumstances leading to the baby’s death.

The investigation is ongoing as police seek to clarify the events surrounding the tragic death.
