Yannick Bolasie, the former Crystal Palace, Everton, and Aston Villa midfielder, is currently in stable condition and undergoing medical evaluation in a hospital in Brazil after sustaining an injury to his pancreas. The incident occurred during Chapecoense’s Copa do Brasil match against Cruzeiro on Sunday.

The 37-year-old player was involved in a challenge for the ball with Cruzeiro’s Kaique Kenji when he fell to the ground clutching his stomach. Following the collision, club medical staff promptly transferred Bolasie to a hospital to assess the extent of his injury. Further examinations revealed he had suffered trauma to the pancreas.

In a statement shared on social media, Bolasie’s agent confirmed the injury was the result of a strong impact to the rib area. He added that Bolasie remains stable but will continue to undergo tests and stay under close medical observation.

Bolasie joined Chapecoense earlier this year, marking his third Brazilian club following stints at Cruzeiro and Criciuma after departing the English leagues. The club has not provided an update on his prognosis, but the focus remains on his recovery.
